the Bible in 90 days

A few days ago . . . well, 10 to be exact, I decided to try the Bible in 90 days reading challenge. I printed off a schedule from Zondervan and got going! With the amount of time the kids I nanny spend napping, I could probably read the Bible in 60 days, so getting in my reading has been easy-peasy.

I absolutely love how much my understanding of Scripture has increased, even in just 10 days. I've read Genesis, Exodus, and today I finished Leviticus and started into Numbers. I am a little excited to get out of the Books of the Law and into the History books. It's not very exciting to me to read about the different offerings that must be made for different sins and what animals you can and cannot eat. It did really make me appreciate that we are no longer under those rules anymore though. Can you imagine?

Genesis has definitely been my favorite by far. I love reading the Creation account, and about the promises God made to Abraham and Israel. Reading so much of it in one sitting gave me a much better perspective on things. I'm certainly not the greatest Biblical scholar in the world, but my understanding of God and His great and perfect plan for our universe makes so much more sense to me. I understand Him more fully in just the few days I have been reading than I think I ever have before. There is certainly a time and a place for studying small portions of Scripture, but I think often we focus on that too much and miss the bigger picture sometimes. Even reading the Bible in a year would give you a smaller perspective on things, in my opinion. (Although, I will be the first to admit that I have never read through the Bible in a year.)

Overall, I have loved this Bible reading challenge. I am so excited to finish it and just sit there and realize how much I have learned and how much I don't know and take pride in the fact that I read a 1,000+ page book in 90 days. (Let's face it, it's not always going to be easy to get in so many chapters in one day!)

If you have ever considered reading the Bible in 90 days, I would highly, highly recommend it! It definitely is a time commitment, but honestly, most of the reading can be done in 45 minutes or less, so that's basically Bible reading instead of TV. And it is soooo worth it!

The Sin of Doing Nothing

Recently, I spent some time in the book of Obadiah. It's one of the shorter books in the Bible, which is why I chose it. In my mind, I would have a better understanding of a book that I could read and study all the way through in one sitting. So, Obadiah it was. I must admit, I honestly didn't think I would learn much. HA! Little did I know. I can now appreciate the verse that says,  " All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,   that  the man of God may be complete,  equipped  for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17) All Scripture. Not just some of it, all of it, praise God! Even Obadiah. Obadiah was sent to tell the people of Edom (also known as Esau's descendants) that they messed up. Big time. When the descendants of Jacob needed help most, the Edomites stood by and watched the destruction happen. Scripture says "Edom was like one of the invaders". The s...

snow days, biking, and a new years resolution

Our snow days have kept us a little bored around here for the past week. We were able to have our first day of second semester, but then the winter storm hit, and the administration team decided to close until Monday. Which by the way, is going to be a packed day! Besides a regular day of school there is a 2 hour meeting to attend and 4 basketball games. Basically, we are enjoying the bit of down time before the rush of the next semester begins. The view from our back patio. So pretty! It was only about an inch and it's already melted almost completely. Before the winter storm, Daniel and I were able to give his Christmas present a try! I purchased a mountain bike for him and my parents gave us a bike rack so we can travel with our bikes. (I've had one since high school). We tried out a few trails at a park nearby and decided that we have found our new favorite hobby together.  Aren't the trails just beautiful? The weather being southern as always is goi...

#fortknoxgoestoJapan

Ever since we were dating, Daniel and I have been planning a trip to his hometown in Japan. We wanted to visit his parents, help out with their ministry some, and most of all, help me understand his family better by understanding and seeing the culture firsthand.  So, for our first year of marriage, we ate lots of hot dogs and boxed macaroni, spent very little on household items and drove his old college car, saving as much money as we could. Traveling is a passion we both share, so for the most part, it wasn't hard for us. Occasionally a shopping spree would happen, but even then, it was still mostly on things to use while on trips. Finally, the day came! Japan here we come! We spent 14+ hours on a plane, 12 of that straight flying from Toronto to Nartia. From Nartia airport, we took a bus for two hours to the closest station to Moroyama, and Daniel's parents picked us up from the bus stop to finally take us to their home. In total, it was 24 hours of traveling, including...
