So, lately I've been reading a lot more, thanks to my sweet husband buying me a kindle a few months ago. It makes books so much cheaper, not to mention more portable than ever. Here is a short summary of the last 3 books I have read and what I thought:
1. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery - loved it! I've always wanted to read the Anne series, but I've never managed to get my hands on a copy. Our last library didn't have it (can you believe it?) and I haven't found it in a bookstore for a reasonable price. Classics can be so pricey sometimes. Thanks to my kindle, I was able to read it for just 50 cents. Happy day! I honestly think the dialogue was the most intriguing part of this novel. Anne's descriptions of life were so captivating and despite being a dreamer and a romantic, she is surprisingly realistic at times. All the "scrapes" she gets into make for a humorous and entertaining story, while also bringing back memories of growing up. For me at least.
2. Anne of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery - the second book in the series was just as lovely as the first. Anne is 16 in this novel and teaching at the Avonlea school. Her struggles as a teacher resonated with my own experiences as a nanny in some instances. The humor was still there, especially with Marilla trying to raise twins and Anne beginning to experience life as an adult. Gilbert Blythe also makes a bigger impact in this book, and the sweet budding romance is so refreshing to read about!
3. Summer of the Midnight Sun by Tracie Peterson - While I try not to read too many romance novels, I always enjoy Tracie Petersons writing. I love the bits of history she tucks into the story, and how alive and real the characters are. I also love a bit of mystery! This novel in particular is keeping me on my toes trying to figure out who did what and how it will possibly all end well. I'm about halfway through at this point, and I can't wait to finish it!
