Whew! Life is so busy during soccer season, and basketball tryouts are this weekend! We will clearly be going nonstop til mid-April this school year. I love that Daniel is able to coach so much, but I do miss seeing him. We text as much as we can these days, and often stay up extra late at night just trying to catch up with each other's lives. It certainly isn't easy, but we are usually able to squeeze a date night in here and there.
When we were doing our marriage counseling, our pastor encouraged us to do as much of the ordinary tasks that would could together. He and his wife both coached in their early years of marriage, and the little things like grocery shopping, getting gas, returning books to the library, mailing items at the post office were all the best ways to spend time together. It's something that must be done, so if at all possible, do it together!
Daniel and I have really tried to practice doing this, and it's wonderful for our marriage. We get time to talk in the car and while waiting in lines. And Daniel loves to have lots of input in our grocery shopping. (Although I have noticed that we often spend much less if I shop alone. I just don't see M&Ms as a necessity like he does.) Last Saturday, we had to take the car to the shop, so we spent two hours sitting together in the waiting room while the repairs were done. Granted, we didn't talk the entire time, but it was nice that we could be together and read and talk about we needed to do that day and so on.
Of course it isn't always possible, but if you find yourself needing more time with your husband, run errands with him! Even if he really doesn't need you along. This might be nearly impossible if you have kids, but hopefully it can happen on occasion every now and then. Doing the boring things together makes life so much more enjoyable!
